Membership

If you are interested in being part of a group of women who enjoy gathering for luncheons, bridge and special social and community events, please consider joining us.

The governing board of the club is comprised of six members elected at the March meeting and installed at the April meeting. The board’s fiduciary responsibilities include the month to month operations of the club and the maintenance and capital improvements necessary to maintain the facility. Major improvements and/or repairs are voted on by the entire membership. The funds required to meet these responsibilities are obtained from annual dues, weekly bridge games and fundraisers.

The membership has a luncheon meeting the third Thursday of every month. The October through March meetings, hosted by a luncheon committee, are held at the clubhouse. Everyone is encouraged to do their part by volunteering for one of the luncheon committees or donating a covered dish. The December luncheon includes a visit from Santa Claus and a Chinese auction gift exchange. The April installation luncheon is at a restaurant or private club and members pay a fixed amount. May through September luncheons are held at various restaurants with each member paying for her own lunch.

Weekly bridge games are held at the club every Wednesday. Participants gather for a brown bag lunch at 11 a.m. and bridge begins at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $5 weekly, and everyone is welcome. Anyone interested in joining, in Bridge, may contact Sandy Ridge or Diane Simpson.

Additional social events include happy hours and an annual social event held on a Sunday evening in February or March. Past themes include Mardi Gras and The Oscars. Members and guests dress for the theme and prizes are awarded after dinner.

The Club’s largest fundraiser is our annual Silver Tea held in February. This event requires the support and participation of the entire membership. Everyone is asked to secure raffle items, contribute sweet or savory tea items, and purchase three tickets to the event. Additional fundraisers and social get-togethers are held throughout the year. Announcements and regular club news will be sent by email with printed copies upon request.

In addition to supporting the Club and clubhouse, monies raised are used to benefit local private and public charities chosen by the membership. Past recipients include LBTS Fire Department, Save the Sea Turtles Foundation, food banks, Neighbor to Neighbor and children and families whose holidays are brighter through the Club’s generosity.

The Club is fortunate to have a membership of vibrant and talented women. We have the collective potential and responsibility with our ideas and efforts to grow and enhance the Woman’s Club of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
